My 4 year old daughter loves the moon, I often look at her and wonder what she imagines the moon to be and what her beautiful imagination wonders what doing up there in the sky. We have never really had any conversation about what it is, its just there and I love witnessing her connection with it. Every so often she will exclaim “mama, moon!” and one time she said this I was contemplating moving forward with teaching hypnobirthing and finding ways to support new mothers and really just wondering how to make it work as a business to support my family. “Mama, Moon!” Willow shouted and from that moment on it couldn’t be anything else. Mamamoon was born and my daughter (inadvertently) chose the name.

I look back on those days with two really young babes and remember how utterly stretched I felt, filled with love but with so little energy for much else. But somehow I found this unwavering enthusiasm for birth even though I knew deep down it was very unlikely I would have any more children. I birthed in the system and saw the best of it (thank you midwives) and some not so great aspects and recognised that support for women was not high on the list. My hope is that Mamamoon becomes a safe space for women; it’s still in it’s infancy but I hope to build a community where women can support other women through the wild ride that is motherhood.
